[REVIEW] MAC Cinderella collection

Hey guys! After waiting in line outside my local MAC store for an hour before opening, I was lucky enough to snag exactly what I wanted. I had planned ahead of time, did some research, and made a list to avoid missing out on what I wanted. I got the Mystery Princess beauty powder, Royal Ball lipstick, Pretty It Up pigment, and the Reflects Pearl glitter. Swatch photos will be at the end of my review!

I was a bit disappointed by the purchases I made once I got home, mostly because I didn’t swatch them myself before buying. This is the first time I decided to go a little crazy with a limited edition release, rather than just getting one item like I usually do when a collection actually interests me or has some sentimental value. Cinderella has always been my favorite Disney Princess story, and I loved the simple but pretty packaging of this line.

First off, I was mostly disappointed by the beauty powder. It is chalky, almost impossible to pick up on a brush, and swatches terribly. I guess I was expecting something like their skinfinish highlight powders, or something like TheBalm’s MaryLou-manizer.

Next, the lipstick. I was hoping for a soft pink with maybe a satin finish, which is basically the shade of this one. I was a little sad that it wore terribly and was clinging to the dry patches on my lips like crazy, also the color was a bit more of a pink-nude on me.

The Pretty It Up pigment is beautiful, I actually already had it from a holiday pigment set (I didn’t even realize before repurchasing – oops!). The color is a beautiful olive/brown/gold and I have actually used it a few times with a smokey eye. I will be selling the Cinderella version of the pigment because I know even the smaller one I already have will end up lasting me a lifetime.

Last, but definitely not least, is the Reflects Pearl glitter. I was not planning on purchasing this at first but decided to get it because I have wanted a white glitter for a while. I love white glitter because it adapts to any base it is stuck to. I swatched it first on top of the Too Faced glitter glue and it gave a nice silvery-white sheen. I am excited to play with this more.

[PICTORIAL] Gold & cranberry negative space cut crease

Hey everyone! This is my first pictorial style post, and I’m hoping you all enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

To start, I have already done my full face and primed my eyelids with MAC Painterly paint pot. The products used on my face will be listed at the end.

IMG_0064

I first started with my Sonia Kashuk all matte palette to create a soft defined crease. The shadows don’t have names on this palette but I used the light skin tone shade in the middle on the top row all over the lid, and the light brown shade in the middle on the third row in the crease. I wanted this soft, yet defined to make the negative space stand out. Be sure to blend thoroughly, this is crucial to making the cut crease polished and soft!

IMG_0066

After the matte shadows, I take a little bit of concealer onto a thin liner brush to sharpen the “cut” area of the crease. I do this after applying each shadow to keep it sharp and defined.

Next, taking a flat brush, I took a cranberry shadow (Makeup Forever – M844) and lined my entire lid from outer corner to inner corner. I drag it this way to keep that inner corner soft and diffused.

After cleaning up the edges, I took a MAC paint pot in the shade Layin’ Low and a pointed liner brush to map out where I wanted the gold shadow to be most intense and strong.

I then took a golden bronze shadow (Coastal Scents – Pure Bronze), and stuck it to where I put the paint pot. I then took a pencil brush and a tiny amount of that same shadow and blended it into the crease area. Be very careful to avoid the actual lid area. I also extended the gold and cranberry lines into my inner corner as well as adding the gold to my lower lash line, I also took concealer and cleaned up the lines to be sure and create the sharp negative space appearance.

Then taking a black liner (I used a black MUFE artist liner), tightline the upper lash line and smudge a bit on to the bottom lash line all the way into the inner corner of the eye. I added some mascara (Too Faced Better than Sex mascara), and some false lashes (Ardell Demi Wispies).

After finishing the eye look, I felt that a dramatic lip color would be a little much, so I added a pink-nude lipstick (YSL- Beige Tribute). The products I used for my full face was as follows:

-MAC Skin base visage primer

-Diorskin Star foundation (Linen – 021)

-Nars Radiant creamy concealer (Custard)

-MUFE HD setting powder

-Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit (Banana)

-Nars bronzer (Laguna)

-Hourglass ambient lighting powder (Radiant light)

-Anastasia Beverly Hills dipbrow pomade (Ebony)

-Anastasia Beverly Hills clear brow gel

Thank you all for reading this post, I look forward to making more and would love suggestions on what to do next!

xoxo, Devin

[REVIEW] Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Hey everyone! I was lucky enough to snag one of the new Nars luminous weightless foundations and figured I’d do a review on it ๐Ÿ™‚

For starters, I have incredibly dry skin but get oily on top of my nose, and I have rosacea as well as some acne scarring. Finding a foundation that covers well but also keeps me moisturized has been difficult, but I think this may have been the answer to my prayers.

My face coloring does not match my neck and I usually go a little darker on my foundation because otherwise I look washed out. The shade I picked was “Punjab”. After putting this on at about 2pm, I wore it until about midnight and didn’t see any fading or oxidation. I did use the MUFE HD setting powder as well as a full face of makeup on top and was pleasantly surprised to see that it had great longevity. I did notice that it began to cling to a small dry patch near my nose but I ended up cleaning the area with a wet qtip to remove product from that area.

The actual formula is very liquidy and thin, I felt like I was using a lot of product but in reality it was about the same amount of foundation as I would normally use. For application, I used a damp beauty blender. The 4 pumps was about the size of a quarter and upon my first layer, I noticed a good amount of coverage but decided to do a second layer to get more coverage. After letting it set and adding setting powder, I looked flawless. I did end up using concealer for my under eye area as well as a few blemishes, but was overall satisfied with the appearance of the foundation. The product is wonderful, however, I feel that I ended up using a lot when applied with a Beauty Blender. ย Using a flat top kabuki brush would be a ideal way of applying this specific product, but for my dry skin, it is often not an option as it will look flakey and uneven.

Below is my before and after photo ๐Ÿ™‚ I do apologize for the terrible lighting, it was super gloomy out. (Only makeup I am wearing is the MAC skin visage primer, Nars luminous weightless foundation in Punjab, and MUFE HD setting powder)
